I got my first Miniature Dachshund when I was 16 years old. His name was Guido (Little Guy) and weighed in at 8 pounds full grown. He was a pistol! My mentor, Charlie May, was in San Diego, CA. From Charlie, I also acquired my first wirehaired Dachshunds and I fell in love with them, too. Charlie was a serious breeder of show dogs and imported some of her dogs from Germany. At 16, I started learning about what to look for and breed for a correctly put together Dachshund.
Later I had a German Shepherd Dog, Scottish Deerhound, Borzois (Russian Wolfhounds), German Pinscher, and 2 Dobermans. I also had some wonderful mixed breed dogs that were spectacular! They were all lovely and wonderful companions. However, I missed having the little wonderful hounds and returned to Dachshunds 20 years ago.
I have a houseful of these little hounds and there's no turning back. Yes, they require a lot of care, love, grooming (especially the wire and long haired varieties) and staying in contact with the veterinarian keeps them all healthy.
Exhibiting these Dachshunds in the show ring is great fun and can be a very expensive undertaking. Many of the pups that I've placed have gone on to their AKC Conformation Championships and their AKC Field Championships and some to their AKC Earth Dog Titles. I only show on a limited basis as the time and travel required is extensive and I have limited of both available to me.
I do breeding on a very limited basis. I'm not the one to turn to for a pup if you want a specific coat, color, sex, and the like. However, if you'd like one of my kids, contact me and I'll let you know if I have a breeding planned in the future. Be sure to check my Puppy page for current and upcoming litters.
I also have adult dogs for placement occasionally. If you would like a house trained Dachshund please contact me. Every dog deserves his or her own loving family!
